Stephen, Zaya, Philip and Maurizio, traveled to Mumbai from Nov 24, 2007 to January 15th, 2008 to produce this new film on Nisargadatta. Our goal was to collect interviews with the three translators of Nisargadatta Maharaj, all now between the ages of 85 and 92.
Mullarpattan, Mahon Gaitonde and Jayashri received us most graciously. We were deelply grateful to have the chance to meet them and record their knowledge and anecdotes. Our journey took us to Maharaj's old room, where he lived and received students. Immagine our surprise to find it now dominated by a large flat-screen television set! We interviewed Nisargadatta's family, found his "shrine" and visited his Guru's shrine. We also interviewed Ramesh Balsakar and met with many incredible Nisargadatta's devotees that shared their devotion and love with us.
On November 11th Maurizio and Zaya will be in Amsterdam with Stephen running a 5 days workshop and promoting the release of the first 3 DVDs of the “I Am That I Am” series in German.
Maurizio organized this workshop with Franzine Savonije, a long time student of Stephen. Over 40 students signed already for the workshop that is becoming rapidly an important event on the European “nonduality scene”
The main reason for organizing this workshop, the first in Europe in 18 years, has been the need to finance the last trip to India to finish the shooting of the “Legacy of Sri Nisargadatta Maharaj” film.
Right after the workshop, the Neti Neti crew will continue its journey to India to finish the film. The movie, whose production started in 2006, intent to document the legacy of this unique Advaita master and present to a western audience, interviews with the old Nisargadatta translators and disciples.
The film has demonstrated to be very challenging and complex and this last short trip will allow us to collect the last missing video and interviews needed to finish it.
In the past two years new archival video material has been discovered and this journey will allow us to integrate it in the already existing footage to present a more complete prospective of the legacy of this great teacher.
One of the key objectives of this journey is to record, in a music studio in Mumbai, Nisargadatta’s nephew Prakesh who was instructed from a young age to be the recipient of Maharaj’s mantras in their original form.
The expected release date for “The Legacy of Sri Nisargadatta Maharaj” is fall 2010.
Maharaj once said to Gayonde and Jayashri (his evening translators): “…A real scientist should come here and talk to me. He will be able to put my words in his scientific language.” Following that we are organizing the first conference on Science of Non duality. We’ll have scientists from all walks getting together and analyzing the basis of non dual teachings and their basis in modern western science.
